Satellite Beach Youth Council
I was re-elected to my second term as chairman of the Satellite Beach Youth Council, a group of engaged students from my city who volunteer to benefit the community and increase youth participation in government. As the inaugural chairman of this organization, I served my community through projects including providing safer drinking water at my high school and organizing a campaign for crosswalk safety awareness along a busy stretch of beachside highway.
On Dec. 15, 2020, I spoke to the Brevard County School Board about a project to install hands-free water bottle filling stations at Satellite High School. Satellite Beach was in the national news in 2018 when unregulated chemicals discovered in our local water table were thought to be contributing to a cancer cluster. This led to passionate public meetings and even a high-profile visit by activist Erin Brockovich. Now our youth council and the school district are partnering to provide filtered water bottle filling stations at my high school. Bottle stations also help reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread and encourage ecologically-aware behaviors, like water bottle reuse.
